The Nonprofit Energy Alliance is a group of nonprofits in Suburban MD and DC using collective buying power to obtain cheaper and greener electricity. This is not a formal or contractual entity. Participating nonprofits can expect savings of 10 – 15%. Launched in May 2010, the Nonprofit Energy Alliance is now comprised of 64 leading-edge nonprofits that will collectively save an estimated $536,000 compared to standard energy service, while supporting clean sources of energy that are essential to protecting our environment and building a new economy. The wind power purchased through this alliance offsets about 40 million pounds of CO2, which is equivalent to removing 3,500 cars off the roads.
